About Us

Maitana is the abbreviation for Maisha na Mabadiliko ya Tabia Nchi; in which in English it refers to Life and Climate Change

It is a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) registered in United Republic of Tanzania. Maitana works to address issues related to climate change Tackling climate change requires controlling things causing climate change and preparing society to be resilient to climate change. Maitana as an NGO focuses on considering the second point, climate change adaptation, as one of the stakeholders in climate change in Tanzania. Maitana has been established to support the efforts of the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania and the world at large in efforts to tackle climate change by contributing towards enabling the society to be resilient to climate change now and in the future.

Maitana was established on October 15, 2024, under the Non-Governmental Organizations Act, 2002 with Registration Number 00NGO/R/7552.

Objectives

Our Objectives

To collaborate with various stakeholders in finding solutions which will enable community to adapt climate change

To actively engage and collaborate with various stakeholders, including governments, organizations, and individuals, in developing innovative, sustainable solutions that empower communities to adapt effectively to the challenges posed by climate change while ensuring long-term resilience and environmental stewardship.

To build capacity of soliciting funds from various agencies in order to accomplish various community projects for it to be able to adapt climate change,

To strengthen the capacity to solicit and effectively manage funding from diverse local, national, and international agencies, fostering partnerships that support the implementation of impactful community projects aimed at enhancing resilience, promoting sustainable development, and empowering communities to adapt proactively to the challenges and opportunities presented by climate change.

To provide education on best approaches of climate change adaptations using various training delivery methods

To deliver comprehensive education and awareness programs on the most effective approaches to climate change adaptation, utilizing a diverse range of training delivery methods such as workshops, seminars, hands-on demonstrations, online platforms, and community outreach initiatives, ensuring that individuals and groups are equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to implement sustainable solutions and foster resilience against climate-related challenges.

To give priority to marginalized community on solving the negative impacts caused by climate change

To prioritize the needs and challenges of marginalized and vulnerable communities in addressing the adverse impacts of climate change, ensuring equitable access to resources, opportunities, and innovative solutions. This involves engaging these communities in participatory decision-making processes, implementing tailored interventions to mitigate climate-related risks, and fostering inclusive strategies that promote social justice, economic empowerment, and long-term resilience against the growing challenges of a changing climate.

Our Events

Maitana participated a Workshop on Waste to Energy

The Maitana Director, Theodora Clement Chavala, participated in this crucial event. She was able to meet other stakeholders, to mention few: Scandinavian ESG Ltd, Ichi Renewable Energies Co.Ltd, and ICE Power, India; who have potential in driving the vision and mission of Maitana.

The event took from May 08 to May 09, 2025 in Dar Es Salaam.

The workshop provided a valuable platform for knowledge sharing, networking, and exploring future collaborations that align with Maitana’s strategic focus on sustainable energy solutions.
